History
The hospital is immediately connected to the
Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML) of Maastricht
University. The University Hospital azM has a unique position in Western
Europe, at the crossroads of The Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. The
University Hospital azM has easy access to these three countries and
practices European cooperation on a daily basis.

Top level expertise
An illustrative example of
innovation and cooperation in research is the new department for vascular
surgery at the University Hospital Aachen (offical opening in October
2005). Director of this department is Michael Jacobs, Professor and
Director of the Cardiovascular Center Maastricht. The European Vascular
Center Aachen-Maastricht is an international center for aortic diseases. It
performs the Thoraco Abdominal Aorta Aneurysma (TAAA), a special vascular
operation that requires top level expertise and dedication.
